Kaiseki(懐石料理)- Traditional Japanese Cuisine

Sharing my First Experience of Having Luxurious Seasonal Kaiseki Course

In Japan, there are usual gatherings in New year (年末年始), barbequing and having dinners together with office colleagues. I would like to share my experience having traditional and authentic dinner Kaiseki with my Project members. Below are the list of items served in chronological order by the staff.

Appetizers
Grilled Dish
Steamed Dish
Main Dish
Tempura
Meal
Last but not the least I missed the dessert because I was late to go to my room. It was nearly 3 hours of dining.
Every restaurants don`t serve the Kaiseki Course. This is the special set of cuisines served in particular Japanese style ryokan.
Being in Japan for 3 years and have tasted Japanese food for these years, I really enjoyed the presentation order, colors of food, arrangement, dining rooms with tatami and having cooked my hotpot bowl on my own table with the burner. I loved the hospitality shown by the staff. They would put our shoes in rack and remember the shoes to whom it belongs and give us when we returned. They were on service all the time. They were not serving all set of food at once. I was really excited to wait for the upcoming menu.
Iraqi Colleagues were not able to have their food finished because they had to use chopstick(はし). It was difficult for them to pick food from the plates and there were no spoons. Another reason is food was raw and very light in taste. Spice lovers might not find good taste.
Anyway, it is a very good opportunity in Japan to have traditional authentic Japanese Cuisines. Don`t miss a chance if you are in Japan.
